Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a novel integration scheme of VCSEL and slow light devices. The lateral optical coupling from VCSEL to slow light device is carried out to control the lateral optical penetration of an oxidized VCSEL into a slow light waveguide. We are able to obtain a high coupling efficiency of more than 50%. In addition, we carried out the modeling of a slow light SOA and a slow light electro-absorption modulator integrated with a VCSEL. We show a possibility of several times lager output power with an SOA than a conventional VCSEL and an extinction ratio over 5dB for a compact slow light modulator with a VCSEL. The lateral coupling scheme with slow light devices can make VCSELs have new functionalities.
