Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Silver contacts are separated at constant speed and break arcs are generated in a DC48V and 6-24A resistive circuit. The transverse magnetic field of a permanent magnet is applied to the break arcs. The magnetic flux density of transverse magnetic field is varied and the influence to the arc duration is investigated. Pictures of break arcs are taken with a high-speed camera. As results, it is confirmed that the duration of break arcs is shortened by the transverse magnetic field, the tendency of the dependence of the arc duration on the circuit current is changed by the magnetic flux density, and the duration of break arcs becomes constant regardless of the circuit current when the transverse magnetic field reaches a certain value.
