Development of cicada-resistant resin and optical drop cables

Abstract(in English) In order for the development of the cicada-resistant optical drop cable, we conducted a test of cicada oviposition on various optical drop cables, and carried out survey about cicada-resistant material properties. As a result of the test, we have found that resins with high strength, high hardness and high Young's modulus can reduce damaged depth. Based on this breakthrough, we have newly designed normal type and high flame retardant type cicada-resistant sheath materials and developed 1 fiber / 2 fiber count and 4 fiber / 8 fiber count optical drop cables with each material. In this paper, we report about the test of cicada oviposition, cicada-resistant sheath material with its flame retardant technology and newly developed optical drop cables.
