Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Our previous study indicated that the occurrence of therapist's utterances starting with expression such as back-channels showed a peculiar time-series pattern in well-evaluated counseling sessions, absent in low-evaluated counseling sessions and ordinary dialogues. This study verifies whether the same tendency is observed for counseling sessions with a different counseling orientation. Two 50-minute counseling sessions were analyzed, one between a cognitive-behavioral therapist and a client, and one between an analytical-psychological therapist and the same client. In addition, one 50-minute ordinary advice session between a high school teacher and the same client was analyzed. The results indicated that the occurrence of therapist's utterances starting with expressions such as back-channels in the two counseling sessions showed a partially similar time-series pattern. Results are discussed in terms of the therapists' mental process in understanding their clients.
