Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Affect and emotion are tightly associated with eye movements. Additionally, microsaccades might reflect human brain activities in attention and cognitive tasks. However, the relationship between the microsaccades and emotion is still unknown. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of emotional pictures on microsaccades as well as pupil size (i.e., the index of the sympathetic nervous system). Event-related responses to unpleasant pictures significantly inhibited the appearance rate of microsaccades with the modulated pupil size. Future approaches for the evaluation of eye movements (saccades, microsaccades, pupil size, etc.) may clarify the pathological mechanism of mental disorders such as anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder.
