Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | When a huge accident or a disaster occurs, Triage, a process of prioritizing victims, is important before treatment because of a large number of victims. Severity of victims is required to be decided in tens of seconds based on their vital signs such as heart rate and respiration rate. In Japan, doctors/nurses decide the priority of victims and attach colored tags to them. However, because the amount of medical resources is not enough, it is difficult to decide the priority among victims who need immediate treatment and to treat unexpected changes of victims' conditions. To overcome these problems, we designed and developed an electronic Triage (eTriage) system. In our system, an electronic tag is attached to each victim. Each electronic tag senses vital signs and sends them through wireless sensor networks to a server. Moreover, eTriage provides several useful functions such as position estimation to support first responders. |
