A Testbed Development for Open Mesh Network

Abstract(in English) We developed a large scale wireless mesh netwrok testbed taking the latest standardization trend on related technologies to establish world-leading technologies to realize the concept of the open mesh network and to provide trial services to seek opportunities for pratical applications. Our testbed consists of 30 nodes covering area of 48,000 square kilometers in Niigata University campus, and 7 nodes covering area of 9,000 square kilometers in Niigata University Shindori farm. Our testbed is based on open architecture, and employs not only IEEE 802.11b/g but also IEEE802.11n wireless LAN. The distance between Niigata University and Shindori farm is about 2 km, where 25 GHz band long-range wireless communication system is used to connect the two locations. Nodes of our testbed have two IEEE 802.11b/g interfaces and an IEEE 802.11n interface. Two of them can be connected to antennas according to each experimental scenario. These nodes do not connect to each other by wired networks, and can be updated and controlled by wireless connection. Additionally, network cameras and weather sensors are built into some nodes in Shindori farm. The state of the farm thus can be monitored remotely in our testbed. Our testbed can be used to evaluate the performance of newly developed techniques for the open mesh network. We explain and exhibit our testbed system to be used to establish technique for the open mesh network.
