| Abstract(in English) | A method of removing line scratches in old movie films is proposed. This method corresponds to an adaptive median filter with a variant window considering the local characteristics of the frame image. Since the film scratches appear as sharp thin lines on frame images, they can be removed by median filtering. However, some fine structures of the image, especially line elements, are deformed by median filtering. Authors proposed before an adaptive median filter with a variant window with Hough transform in order to remove the scratches. Here, the scratch area is interpolated with a median filter, the direction of the window of which is determined by Hough transform. However, when the image contains a lot of edge pixels, this method tends to detect false straight line elements by Hough transform, and the interpolation of the scratch area cannot be performed effectively. The method proposed here can interpolate the scratch area effectively by detecting straight line elements precisely considering the local frequency distribution in each image area. Computer simulations show high performance of the proposed method. |
