Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In Video-on-Demand (VOD) services with the client server (C/S) method, when the load of the media server is greater than expected because of an increase in the number of users, the server has to reject a new request or keeps users wait for buffering. In this paper, we propose a streaming system that integrates the server and Peer-to-Peer (P2P). In this integrated system, a part of users connected to the server are switched to the BitTorrent sub-system that is a hybrid P2P, when the server cannot provide streams without buffering time. We evaluate the proposed system in terms of buffering time. As a result, when the number of users is 50-100, the server bandwidth is 1OOMbps, users bandwidth is 1OMbps, and the bit rate of a video is 2Mbps, buffering time of the proposed system becomes 8.47 seconds on average and is reduced 17 seconds from the BitTorrent system, 361.38 seconds from the C/S system. Moreover, we compare the rarest-first method with the sequential method as chunk selection methods at various bit rates of a video.
