A New Optical Wavelength Path Establishment Method with Wavelength Converters Based on Dynamically Controlled Number of Hops in WDM Networks

Abstract(in English) In WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) networks, blocking probability becomes higher as number of hops to destination increases because the same wavelength has to receive on all links. Blocking probability can get lower by using wavelength converters. However, it is difficult to equip wavelength converters to all nodes due to too expensive. In this paper, we proposed a new optical wavelength path establishment method with less number of wavelength converters based on transition of blocking probability. We set threshold number, which limit number of hops to destination. Our basic idea is to select a route via wavelength converters when number of request more than the threshold. The method is to achieve lower blocking probability and fewer number of wavelength converters by applying proposed algorithm for requests more than the threshold number. By simulations, we showed that the proposed method achieves lower blocking probability and fewer number of wavelength converters than the existing methods.
