Behavioral Design of Robot for Remote Active Listening Support in Video Communication

Abstract(in English) We propose communication supporting system using robot for remote active listening between dementia patient, in order to solve difficulty of dialogue sustention due to decreased attentiveness of dementia patient. Proposed system is composed of (1) recognition of user utterance and attention subject, (2) pseudo listening behaviors of robot, and (3) pseudo active listening by frontal face communication by camera switching. The system formed mutual active listening utterance support; the system provide user with situation in which her/he "feels listened to by other person or robot" to stimulate "user motivation for talking to some listener."
