Automatic Extraction of Moving Object from Video Frames by Graph Cut

Abstract(in English) Recently, much attention has been paid to the technology that works effectively for many problems in image processing by reducing them to energy minimization problems that are solved with the minimum graph cut algorithm. Interactive segmentation that separates the foreground from the background for images and videos is known as one of the main applications of this technology. However, in the interactive segmentation, users are responsible for giving foreground seeds and background seeds manually a priori. This paper proposes an algorithm that extracts the foreground automatically from movies taken by a static video camera, where the seeds are gener- ated without human intervention. Our algorithm first derives SIFT feature points from every video frames. Then, it tracks the motion of the feature points and classifies them into two groups, i.e., moving feature points and static feature points. Finally, the former is chosen as the foreground seeds, while the latter becomes the background seeds.
