Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) oscillating in the midinfrared range and terahertz wavelengths allow for monitoring trace gases relating to environmental problems and energy. Such spectroscopic applications require narrow linewidth and low noise characteristics. Although investigations on the linewidth of QCLs were presented in some papers, there have been only a few reports on the noise characteristics, and they were results obtained at 77 K. We have measured the relative intensity noise (RIN) of Peltier-cooled 6.1-μm QCLs for the first time. It was found that in the small current range, the RIN dependences on current at room temperatures were different from that of 77 K.
