Abstract(in English) For broad-gain applications, a new quantum cascade laser structure based on multi-upper-state design is proposed and demonstrated. The full width at half maximum of measured luminescence spectrum is 300 cm^<-1> at room temperature. The high performances of 8.7 μm quantum cascade lasers are demonstrated: low threshold current densities of 1.8 kA/cm^2 and maximum output powers of 610 mW at room temperature, and high T_0-values of 261 K around room temperature.
