Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Semiconductor lasers are essentially categorized into stable class B lasers. However, they are easily destabilized by external perturbations, such as external optical feedback, and show chaotic behaviors. Irregular oscillations of the output power induced by optical feedback in semiconductor lasers have long been studied from a viewpoint of noise effects. But, recently, they are recognized as chaotic phenomena in the nonlinear systems in semiconductor lasers. In this report, we summarize the effects of optical feedback and develop the dynamic rate equations, which are suitable to describe self-mixing laser Doppler effects in semiconductor lasers.
