A Study on an Open Source for Distance Real-Time Learning Environment

Abstract(in English) With regard to the rapid growth of ICT technologies, a lot of e-learning systems which have distant real-time lecture or meeting functions have been developed to support higher education. However, there are various drawbacks in most of traditional systems. For instances, they can only support in wide-band internet connection environments, and they don't concern for non IT users point of view. Furthermore, most of the existing systems use only slide-based presentation materials such as power-point, nevertheless, there are many professors or lecturers use only black board or white board for their classes. Hence, we consider that we are still lacking of an effective e-learning system which can support those of above issues. In this paper, we describe our e-learning platform called WebELS. The WebELS Meeting for Internet-based on-line lecture or meeting is also explained as well as its system structure. The system includes slide presentation, video meeting and real-time online whiteboard functions.
