Abstract(in English) | This study examines how a computer-mediated-communication is similar with face-to-face communication rather than non-face-to-face communication. The present study investigated this issue by analysing a cohesive device, ellipses, utilised in the articles from a Q&A site. The ellipses were analysed since the frequent instance of ellipsis is considered as the characteristic feature of dialogue, which contributes to the creation of cohesion and adjacency pair. The analysis indicated that the number of the instance of ellipsis was significantly larger than that of other cohesive devices such as reference and lexical cohesion. Consequently, this study may suggest that a computer-mediated-communication is similar with face-to-face communication rather than non-face-to-face communication. |
