Coded Constellation Rotated Vector OFDM with Generalized Block Interleaver Design

Abstract(in English) Over a multi-path fading channel, it is well known fact that the diversity order of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is only 1, hence the practical OFDM usually employs a convolutional coding (CC), called coded OFDM (COFDM), to attain diversity order min{P, d_f} where P and d_f are number of independent paths and free distance of the employed CC, respectively. To guarantee attainability of the maximum diversity order P, however, we have to employ a CC with d_f ≧ P and, for a long multi-path channel, it is practically un feasible due to a CC with large d_f involves high decoding complexity at the receiver. On the other hand, the single antenna vector OFDM (V-OFDM) proposed by Xia is a OFDM-like communication system with augmented property against to channel spectral nulls. By the way, V-OFDM does not necessarily attain diversity order min{P, M} with coupled length-M symbol vector and, for overcoming such drawback, we proposed the constellation-rotated V-OFDM (CRV-OFDM), in which each modulated symbol rotates its constellation before feeding into the V-OFDM transmitter. In this paper, by employing CC to the CRV-OFDM, we propose the coded CRV-OFDM (CCRV-OFDM) with generalized block interleaver (GBI). Performance analysis provides the fact that the CCRV-OFDM attains diversity order min{P, Mdf} and, the COFDM employing the GBI achieves better performance compare with the block interleaver (BJI) adopted in IEEE 802.11 standard. The superiority of the CCRV-OFDM and GBI on BER performance is confirmed by numerical comparison with coded V-OFDM (CV-OFDM) and COFDM.
