Abstract(in English) Cooperative relaying has been attracting attentions as a promising approach to improve receives signal quality in cellular systems, particularly in uplink fading channels. Although Decode-and-Forward(DF) scheme combined with a channel encoding has been extensively investigated for relaying scheme, this has major drawback that diversity gain cannot be obtained at a base station (BS) when one of relay stations (RSs) fails to decode a frame sent by mobile station. This leads to the increase of packet error rate in the low SNR conditions. To address this problem several methods were proposed such as Amplify-and-Forward(AF) scheme, and hybrid scheme combining with DF and a scheme to relay outputs of soft input soft output (SISO) decoder. However, these schemes were mainly evaluated using models that do not incorporate pathloss. This paper presents performance evaluation of aforementioned two relaying schemes of packets containing bit errors using multihop system models considering pathloss. Results of performance evaluation by simulation show that evaluated schemes can achieve larger reduction of required SNR for a given packet error rate in a model where a distance between MS and one RS and a distance between MS and another RS are different, compared with a model where distance from MS to two RSs are the same.
