Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, a novel delta-sigma modulator which has a non-uniform quantizer is proposed. A delta-sigma modulator is used in a transmitter which has a class-S power amplifier. The proposed delta-sigma modulator reduces the quantization noise which causes spurious emission compared to a delta-sigma modulator which has a uniform quantizer. The output values except the largest one and the threshold values of the non-uniform quantizer are determined using a probability density function of input signal. The largest output value is set to a certain value to make the delta-sigma modulator stable. Simulation results show that the proposed design reduces quantization noise 2.9 dB and 0.5 dB if the input signal is OFDM signal and QPSK signal, respectively compared to a delta-sigma modulator which has uniform quantizer.
