Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a methodology of an extrinsic information transfer (EXIT)-based rate control for multilevel bit interleaved coded modulation-iterative detection (ML-BICM-ID) schemes exploiting turbo codes as the constituent encoder. Since the turbo codes are widely employed in several communication systems, in the sense of backward compatibility, it is not preferable to change the code structure to challenge the Shannon-limit in the coded modulation systems. Due to this constraint, in the most of systems, the turbo codes are simply connected by the modulation without any consideration to achieve the limit even in higher modulation order. In the proposed method, an imbalance of signal levels between information bits for ML-BICM signaling is focused. The imbalance brings us to a concept that an exchange of code redundancy according to the imbalance improves iterative behavior on EXIT chart, resulting in high transmission quality in higher modulation order. A key technique of the exchange is code-puncture to slightly change the coding rate.
