Abstract(in English) Ultra wideband (UWB) channel sounding capabilities were evaluated in a narrowband interference environment with use of a UWB spatio-temporal channel sounder using orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. A spectrum hole having a specific bandwidth can easily created within a OFDM signal bandwidth; and therefore the narrowband interference to the UWB OFDM signal can be nullified. A novel method is proposed to evaluate time-of-arrival (TOA) and angle-of-arrival (AOA) of a UWB OFDM signal suffering narrowband interference by employing the spectrum hole. Inter-subcarrier interference is unavoidable in an actual OFDM signal; the resulting signal distortion restricts the channel sounding capabilities; and therefore experimental evaluation is crucial. Propagation experiments were carried out in one- and two-path environments in a radio anechoic chamber. The bandwidth of the UWB OFDM and the narrowband signals were 500 and 20 MHz, respectively. The TOA and the AOA were correctly estimated with use of the proposed method.
