Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examine error rate performances of optical amplitude- and differential phase-shift keying (ADPSK) and direct detection systems with two or four amplitude levels. First, we show closed-form expressions for error rate with the arbitrary degrees of freedom of noise distribution. Next, we extract the optimum extinction ratio for each modulation format, which minimizes error rate. Comparing receiver sensitivities, we show that ADPSK with two amplitude levels and four or eight phases is the best modulation format in ADPSK. Furthermore, we examine approximation error in threshold for demodulating amplitude-shift keyed signal.
