Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A simple algorithm for determining dimming factor in an adaptive dimming technique is proposed. In the method, firstly the dimming factors are roughly deteremined according to the maximum signal of each block. Then the factors are adjusted to compensate for the lack of luminance causesd by the broadened luminance distribution of each block. Computer simulation shows that the increase in power is less than 7.5%, implying the proposed method has equivalent power saving effect. In addition, the clipping ratio is less than 0.04% and the luminance difference between output images and input images is less than 0.45%. The calculation time of the proposed method is about 1/600 times shorter than that of the previous method.
