Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A 60-GHz band electrically steerable reflectarray antenna has been fabricated and evaluated with a view to applying it to an millimeter wave imaging system. Each reflecting element on the reflectarray was printed on a dielectric substrate and had a rectangular microstrip patch and a stub loaded with a single PIN diode. The reflection phase was changed by 159° in accordance with the on/off state of the PIN diode; namely, the element worked as a single-bit phase shifter with simple structure. A reflectarray was fabricated using 40 × 40 reflecting elements with each spaced at 0.7λ. The experimental results were in good agreement with the simulations for the radiation patterns and the antenna gain. In addition, the capability of steering the antenna beam within 25° from the broadside was confirmed, and the response time of the beam steering was measured as 20 μs. As a result, the reflectarray antenna has a potential to be applied to millimeter-wave imaging.
