Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Area navigation (RNAV) which appeared in 1960's has made remarkable progress. At present, there are several tens of RNAV routes within the Japanese airspace. This has been expanding the flexibility of aircraft operation. Recently, ICAO established the concept which allows various operational procedures according to the performance of aircraft This is called the Performance-based Navigation. (PBN). This concept divides RNAV aircraft operations into RNAV and RNP operations, and specifies the required operational conditions of these. Especially, in the approach phase, new operational procedures of RNAV such as RNP AR (Authorization Required) are determined. This paper first introduces the concepts of RNAV and RNP, and then, briefly review the transition form RNAV to PBN. Then, this paper touches upon the status of RNAV implementation and few future works associated with PBN implementation.
