Comparison of Threshold-Setting Methods in a QoE-Based Video Output Scheme for Audio-Video IP Transmission

Abstract(in English) This report studies methods for setting threshold for the QoE-Based Video Output Scheme SCS(Switching between error Concealment and frame Skipping) in audio-video IP transmission in terms of QoE. We compare five threshold-setting methods for SCS: (1) a constant threshold value of 0% (i.e., frame skipping) (2) a constant threshold value of 100%(pure error concealment), (3) setting by estimating QoE, (4) looking up into a reference table, and (5) selection by the user. We conducted subjective experiments on the methods for combinations of many contents and picture patterns. We assess QoE by the method of successive categories. As a result, we observe that methods (3), (4), and (5) can achieve higher QoE than methods (1) and (2). In addition, we show that the QoE estimation method can be realized effectively by means of a representative nonlinear multiple regression line for each combination of content types and picture patterns.
