Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Swallowing is performed by timely coordinated movement of deglutition related muscles. However, an old person or a patient with movement disorder has a problem of aspiration because of a decline in the muscular strength and so on. So that, we have evaluated the deglutition movement in non-invasive and simple way using surface electromyography (sEMG) and deglutition sound, In this report, we investigated the effect of aging or movement disorder to the coordinated movement of deglutition. 53 young healthy persons, 72 old healthy persons and 8 patients with movement disorders were participated. sEMG and deglutition sound of the participants were recorded and analyzed. Then, patterns of coordinated deglutition movement were classified by the duration of activity of deglutition-related muscles. As results, different patterns of coordinated movement of deglutition were observed between old healthy persons and patients with movement disorders.
