Evaluation of Content Delivery Characteristics using Network-aware P2P Simulator

Abstract(in English) Recently, the Peer-to-Peer (P2P) system has been widely deployed because it can reduce the server and operation cost for the content delivery. However, due to lack of the awareness about the network topology in the peer node selection, a large amount of the P2P traffic across the network domains causes serious problem in the ISP(Interriet Service Provider) network operation. To solve this problem, we proposed the Network-aware P2P(NaP2P) system, which enables to select appropriate peers employing the network information and to localize the P2P traffic within an ISP network. The proposed system has been experimentally validated by using 50 PCs and optical network systems. Although the experiment using actual equipments is effective to reproduce the realistic P2P protocol behaviour, there is the limitation to test a large scale network. Hence, we developed the NaP2P software which can simulate one million peers in a single PC together with the network topology creation and the peer selection capabilities. In this paper, we describe the simulator design and its functions and show the simulation results on the P2P traffic localization.
