Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper introduces a dictionary and translation service for pictograms used in Japanese cell phones. The dictionary is made by collecting more than 6600 interpretations and example messages from 276 Japanese cell phone users. The pictogram dictionary is searchable by pictogram, age and gender. We applied language translation services on the Language Grid in order to make the pictogram dictionary searchable in other languages. Our aim for developing the multi-language translation service for the pictogram dictionary is to provide smoother communication between Japanese and non-Japanese on Japanese cell phones.
