Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Foreign residents of Japan have increased in these days; the Japanese come to have opportunities for communicating with foreigners in face-to-face environment. Significant barriers exist in intercultural communications because of the differences in language and culture. Therefore, it is not easy to achieve in mutual understanding in conversations. In our study, we specifically focus on the additional information as a method for overcoming the differences between cultures. We have developed a face-to-face intercultural informal communication support system, named iGengo, which can extract added nouns from voice messages and acquire the relevant text and image annotations automatically. iGengo has the following special functions : (1) display the relevant information in a conversation, (2) display information messages instantly, (3) use of improved user interface. As the result of the experiment, we found that these functions are effectively to support a face-to-face intercultural informal communication.
