PMT connectors for polymer film waveguide-optical interconnections

Abstract(in English) PMT connecter is an unique polymer multi-mode film waveguide connector. The connector can be compatible with general MT connector, and was de-facto standardized as JPCA-PE03-01-07S in 2006. In this study, we explain the characteristics of the PMT connector, including the causes of connection loss. The loss caused by the core positioning error was lower than 0.5 dB. The results of the reliability tests including thermal cycle test, and high temperature and high humidity test showed small connection-loss change less than 0.5 dB. Connecting loss between two multimode film waveguides with PMT connectors showed lower than 0.2dB. PMT connectors can be provided intra-system optical interconnections for high-speed routers, servers, and computers.
