Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Research and development of software defined radio (SDR) started from SPEAKEasy project which was a U.S. military project in early 1990s and SDR became known through the world with the publication of the special issue on SDR of IEEE communication magazine in 1995. Then, SDR research and development has become very active. Federal Communications Commission revised the regulation in 2001 towards the achievement of SDR. Recently, some SDR products are put to practical use and are used in the commercial service. On the other hand, cognitive radio (CR) technology recognizes the radio wave environment and enables to achieve an optimum wireless communication. CR has a lot of attention in recent years as a technology to solve the scarcity of the frequency. This paper will introduce prototypes and products of SDR and CR as trends in development and practical use of SDR and CR. And also, we will introduce our flexible wireless system which uses the SDR technology and the CR technology.
