Abstract(in English)	This paper introduces research and development activities regarding to the reliability improvement by heterogeneous wireless systems, especially conducted by the authors. The heterogeneous wireless system, which has been discussed in vertical handover technologies, is deeply related to the cognitive radio technologies. Though the main purpose of the cognitive radio is an efficient radio frequency reuse, this paper focuses on the improvement of the communication reliability. It also states the relation between the communication reliability and the efficiency of the frequency usage. An overview and the aim of authors' activities, including our development of the test-bed system, are introduced here, followed by the current status and further studies.
