Improvement of contrast ratio with waveguide-type optical circuit for QPSK label recognition

Abstract(in English) Optical processing is expected to realize routing nodes in photonic networks. In label routing networks, a device to recognize optical labels is required. We have proposed a waveguide type optical device for recognizing optical Quadri Phase Shift Keying (QPSK) labels. The phase identification circuit for the QPSK optical labels consists of a 3-dB directional couple, two Y-junctions and an asymmetic X-junction. By using interference between an optical QPSK pulse and identifying pulse, the circuit recognizes the optical phase. QPSK labels consisting of plural symbols can also be recognized by connectiong the basic module devices in a tree structure through a phase adjustment circuit. In this paper, We propose an improvement method of the contrast ratio for the waveguide-type optical device for two-symbol recognition and discuss itsw scalability to identification of plural-symbol labels. Finally, we verify the device operation by theoretical analysis and the BPM simulation.
