Design of low-loss connection between two optical waveguides using a genetic algorithm

Abstract(in English) This article proposes a design method that offers a connection waveguide for minimizing the coupling loss between two waveguides having different structures by means of the genetic algorithm. This article shows some design examples, such as cases where normalizaed frequencies of two optical waveguides are indentical with each other or are different from, cases where their optical axes agree with or disagree with, and cases where their structural parameters are different from. The validity of the design method is confirmed by comparing with results using the beam propagation method.
