Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we present some noise analysis results of video sequences acquired by six consumer camcorders. The noise analysis is carried out considering time variation of noise amount and noise pattern, which is unlike the case of still images. Video sequences taken by camcorder are affected by various kinds of noise caused by image sensors, signal processing, and so forth. In addition, recent advance in camcorders in terms of its integration, such as sophisticated functionalities by signal processing with surprisingly compact body, has made it impossible to separate each noise from the resulted video sequence. The result of noise analysis shows that noise characteristics differ greatly among camcorders. In this noise analysis, quality setting and option setting, such as slow shutter, high-sensitivity mode, and so on, do not affect the noise characteristics greatly. The analysis result of time variation of root mean square (RMS) granularity shows that time variation of noise amount is derived from the video compression scheme.
