Similar Image Retrieval by Using Features of an Object in a Reference Image

Abstract(in English) Several similar image retrieval techniques based on the feature of an object in an image have been proposed. Ordinarily, the input image to the retrieval system includes the target objects and the background. Then some object extraction method should be required and its accuracy plays an important role in the system. In this paper, we propose a similar image retrieval system by using the target object extraction method based on the similarity of the color histograms between the target object and the background. An extraction method for the contour of a target object based on Snakes and the color histogram is also proposed. Some experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed target extraction technique and the similar image retrieval system.
