Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is necessary to extract structural features of facial organs for the face recognition, and the accuracy in the extraction is important. We examined an extraction method using the modified edge detection. The method is composed of the pre-processing of face images, the edge detection and the binarization for producing edge-enhanced images of structural features. Some image processing filters were prepared, and the examination of their combinations was carried out, so as to find the optimum filters for the capture of extracted structural features as facial organs. The extraction of facial organs was followed by the histogram analysis of the processed images. The optimum combination of image processing filters was found in our experimental condition.
