A Basic Experiment of Multi-BS Cooperative Transmission in LTE Kitakyushu Field Trial at Specified Ubiquitous District

Abstract(in English) Multi-BS cooperative transmission technology is recently attracting much attention. In the technology, multiple BSs(Base Stations)transmit signal to the user by cooperating each other and the cell-edge throughput can be improved. We proposed a sector configuration, in which three sectors belonging to a base station are placed on different site by using optical feeder. We clarified that the throughput performance of the sector configuration with multi-BS cooperative transmission is superior to that of the conventional sector configuration, in which three sectors are placed together at the same site. In this technical report, we report the results of the field trial we conducted with 3GPP Rel.8 LTE-compliant equipments in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka on March, 2010. In the field trial, we conducted a basic experiment of the multi-BS cooperative transmission and the sector configuration with optical feeder. Through the field trial, we clarified that the multi-BS cooperative transmission could improve cell-edge throughput drastically.
