A Study on Subcarrier Mapping for SC-FDMA System in Relay Communications

Abstract(in English) Single-carrier frequency-division multiple-access(SC-FDMA)has been attracting attention as an access scheme for uplink transmission in the next generation mobile communication. In SC-FDMA, the frequency diversity gain can be obtained and user multiplexing is accomplished by mapping the frequency components of the signal into wider frequency band while keeping orthogonality among users. The relay communication has also been gaining attention for reducing the power consumption necessary to achieve desired error rate, enlarging the coverage areas, and so on. In the relay transmission, the mobile station(MS)transmits its signal to the base station(BS)and also to the relay station(RS). At RS, the signal transmitted from MS is processed according to relay scheme and then is transmitted to BS. As a result, the signal is received at BS from not only MS but also RS, and it can obtain the space diversity gain. In SC-FDMA, mapping strategy of the users' spectrum has an enormous impact on system performance. So far, subcarrier mapping strategies for SC-FDMA have been conducted for the direct(MS-BS)communication. However, in the relay communication, the appropriate way of mapping may be different from that in direct one because of the independent fading of each channel. In this paper, we study how each link should be considered for mapping strategy and show the impact of mapping strategies on the performance of SC-FDMA.
