Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose and demonstrate a simple self-polarization-stabilization technique for the wavelength-division-multiplexed passive optical network(WDM PON)implemented with reflective semiconductor optical amplifiers and self-homodyne coherent receivers. By placing a Faraday rotator(FR)in front of the RSOA in the optical network unit(ONU), the state of polarization of the upstream signal becomes orthogonal to that of the linearly polarized seed light at the input of the coherent receiver. In the demonstration, we use 2.5Gbit/s BPSK signal and 68km transmission link. When the FR was not used, the BER is drastically degraded. On the other hand, by using the FR, we can obtain the stable BER in spite of the fluctuation of the state of polarization due to the transmission link.
