Abstract(in English) | The KIBO's robotic arm, JEMRMS (Japanese Experiment Module Remote Manipulator System), is the robotic manipulator system which is mainly used for installing payloads to the KIBO's Exposed Facility. The JEMRMS consists of the RMS workstation launched on the Space Shuttles (STS-123/Flight 1JA), the Main Arm launched on the Space Shuttle (STS-124/Flight 1J) and the Small Fine Arm launched on the H-II Transfer Vehicle 1 (HTV1). The Main Arm was carefully deployed during the Flight 1J mission in June 2008. Afterward, five initial checkouts to validate subsequent payload handling operations were successfully completed in Mar 2009. Three payloads were delivered by the Space Shuttle (STS-127/Flight 2JA) in July 2009 and two payloads were delivered by the HTV1 in Sep 2009. All of these five payloads were successfully installed to the KIBO's Exposed Facility by the Main Arm. The Small Fine Arm (SFA) was assembled and the initial function was checked out inside KIBO's Pressurize Module in Jan 2010. And then the SFA was transferred outside the KIBO's Pressurized Module through the KIBO's Airlock and finally installed on the stowage location on the Exposed Facility by the Main Arm in Mar 2010. This successful SFA transfer through the KIBO's Airlock means that the full configuration of the KIBO to support the utilization is achieved. This paper summarizes a series of the JEMRMS mission and also introduces some interesting lessons and learned. |
