Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | SMILES has been successfully launched and attached to the Japanese Experiment Module (JEM) on the International Space Station (ISS). It has been making atmospheric observations with the aid of a 4-K mechanical cooler and superconductive mixers for the submillimeter limb-emission sounding. Data processing has been retrieving vertical profiles of atmospheric minor species. At the same time, we have been conducting preliminary validation by comparing the SMILES data with other existing data sources. Results from SMILES have demonstrated its high potential to observe the atmospheric minor constituents in the stratosphere and the mesosphere. We hope that these outstanding data from SMILES can make a breakthrough in the middle atmosphere science. |
