Method of Computing Link Capacity for Shared Backup based on Limited Traffic Information

Abstract(in English) It is important for carriers to measure traffic flowing on their IP networks. This is because the measured traffic is efficient information on considering capacity investment. Especially, the information of the end-to-end traffic flows between a source and a destination node on the networks is efficient for estimating link capacities of backup paths. However, measuring end-to-end traffic flows requires much load on the networks and carriers cannot always get their complete information on their large-scale IP networks. To tackle this situation, authors proposed a mathematical model and its algorithm for computing link capacity required for normal and backup paths on the networks under the restricted traffic measurement situation, when shared backup paths assignment method is applied. This paper shows the simulation results of its performance on the mesh network to evaluate the applicability of the proposed algorithm to the operational networks.
