Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recently, the mainstream traffic analysis tools operate at flow level by default. However, such tools experience many performance problems due to enormous processing cost required for analysis. Traditionally, the largest share of processing power has to be dedicated to hash tables where flows are stored. It could also be argued that with a large number of flows, hash lookup causes most of performance overhead. Although flow-based analysis cannot be completely replaced by any other technology, analysis based only on IP address can offer substantial performance relief. This paper performs comparison of statistical properties between these two approaches to IP traffic analysis.
