Review and prospect of assistive technology for the deaf and hard of hearing

Abstract(in English) The authors review the assistive technology for the deaf and hard of hearing, especially reports which were presented in the study group of Well-being Information Technology (WIT) during recent 10 years. The total number of reports presented in the 50 times of technical meetings for 10 years were about 800. The number of reports related to the deaf and hard of hearing was about 180 and it occupies about 22 percent of the whole number of reports. These reports can be classified into three fields of techniques, that is, sign language, information accessibility and other. For each technique, after brief overview some study reports will be presented. Furthermore, prospective studies will be presented from the view point of recipients of these techniques.
