| Abstract(in English) | This paper reviewed Technical Reports of IEICE which were presented in Technical Committee WIT for the last ten years (1999-2009) and dealt with assistive technology for visually impaired and blind persons. The most dominant theme was technologies assisting the use of personal computers; 30 percent of the reviewed reports handled it. Among them, 40 percent studied Web accessibility. Followings were technologies assisting mobility and navigation, braille, I/O interfaces, and speech. Researches for the assist of deaf and blind persons were reported in a big number whereas only a few researches for low vision were reported. Many research results became available on the market as well as freely on the Web. Based on this review, the second author, a user of these assistive technologies, described future expectations in this research field. |
