Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) P2P streaming systems can be classified into two groups, depending on the P2P overlay structure: tree-based and mesh-based. Since there is no complex overlay in mesh-based system, mesh based systems are more resilient to node failures, and even nodes with low bandwidth connections can contribute to the system. As a consequence, most of P2P streaming systems which are currently being researched or deployed are mesh-based systems. However, nowadays the broadband connections are becoming more affordable and thus more widely available. With the wide availability of technologies such as FTTH (Fiber To The Home), nodes in a tree-based system may also be able to contribute to the system so that the advantages of tree-based system can be exploited. In this paper, we compare the advantages of tree-based systems and mesh-based systems in scenarios where nodes use different bandwidth connections through simulation experiments.
