Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) LTE (Long-Term Evolution)-Advanced will focus on deployments in local areas such as indoor and hotspot environments, since most of the traffic is concentrated in those local areas. In order to accommodate efficiently the increasing amount of traffic estimated in the future, it is effective to deploy small cells in high-traffic areas. As a result, various types of cells will coexist such as macrocells, picocells, and femtocells in a radio access network (RAN), which is called a heterogeneous network. In the heterogeneous network, an extremely high level of inter-cell interference is experienced due to coexistence of low transmission power base stations, CSG (Closed Subscriber Group) base stations, etc. Therefore, inter-cell interference problem becomes more serious and related radio access techniques are being investigated for the heterogeneous network. This paper presents the technical background and radio access techniques for the heterogeneous network in LTE-Advanced.
